The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is recommending acceptance of proposals aimed at alleviating overcrowding in the emergency department in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Management has agreed to recruit 88 extra nurses, as well as one nurse for every six admissions in the emergency department - and make additional beds available at the Drogheda hospital.
It follows discussions at the Labour Relations Commission yesterday.
The issue has been before the LRC last November, when it was agreed that more beds would be opened.
The commitment led to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation deferring industrial action at the hospital.
The INMO now says 24 additional beds have been promised at the Drogheda hospital, but have not been delivered.
On Tuesday, the hospital saw the highest level of overcrowding in the country, with 40 patients on trolleys in the ED, 10 on trolleys in wards and a further 13 in the medical assessment unit.
The IMNO says the emergency department in the hospital is one of the most overcrowded in the country, with some elderly patients spending 4 or 5 days on trolleys.
