Obama backs military action in Syria

The Arab League is calling on the world to take action against Syria and says failure to do so only allows the regime to "pursue its crimes".

America claims it has evidence that sarin gas was used in a chemical attack, and President Obama is now trying to secure political backing for military strikes against the Syrian regime.

 

Barack Obama's backing military air strikes in Syria, describing the civil war as an "assault on human dignity".

The US President says he's confident the US has made the case for intervention - and doesn't need to wait for UN inspectors to report back on whether chemical weapons have been used.

United Nations weapons inspectors have only just finished gathering their evidence on what happened in Syria last week when aid agencies claim thousands of civilian were gassed by the Asaad regime- The UN claim it could take two weeks before they are able to report their findings.

Obama does conceed however that he'll seek permission from Congress, which returns from summer break in 10 days, before launching an attack:
