A 16-year-old boy has been charged with killing a woman in a violent incident outside Tullamore, Co Offaly, on Friday night.
The teenage boy will appear before a special sitting of Tullamore District Court at 9.30pm tonight, September 30th.
The woman, locally identified as Lorna Woodnutt, was killed on Friday afternoon at a house in Rahan, a rural area outside Offaly.
The boy was arrested at the scene.
Ms Woodnutt’s body was brought to Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore, where a post-mortem by the State pathologist is ongoing.
The scene of the incident remains closed for examination by Garda Technical Bureau.
Local Councillor Tony McCormack said it is an unspeakabale tragedy for the local community.
“The whole community is just in shock at the moment,” he said.
“Words just can’t explain how we all feel today.
“It’s like something you’d read about or see in some other far-flung places, whether that’s the deepest part of America or the UK or Europe."
