An event at Leinster House, which would have seen it open to visitors this weekend, has been cancelled.
The Houses of the Oireachtas Service said it was cancelling its participation in 'Open House' for Saturday October 12th and Sunday October 13th.
It comes after climate change Extinction Rebellion protesters blocked both gates to Leinster House on Thursday night.
Some members were also chained to the gates.
Around 20 TDs and some ministers were in the building for several hours.
A request by one TD to leave for family reasons was also denied by the protesters.
The stand-off ended at around 1.00am after locks were removed from the gates.
Ceann Comhairle Seán Ó Fearghaíl explained: "We are bitterly disappointed to have to take this course of action.
"However, in light of the serious incident which occurred last night at the Merrion Street gates of Leinster House, we cannot take any further health and safety risks for the hundreds of guests who wished to attend and equally we cannot place our staff at risk.
"An open weekend will be rescheduled as soon as possible and we look forward to welcoming many visitors to see the restoration and conservation of their National Parliament."
Leinster House was to open to visitors as part of the Irish Architecture Foundation's Open House weekend.
This event would have marked the official return to the House, after the completion of extensive conservation and restoration works on the Georgian building.
