The Beach Volleyball is worth watching if only to see how competitors handle the possibility of inclement weather. Rumours are that if the rain clouds roll in, the famously skimpy uniforms will be replaced by full bodysuits. The spectators won’t be happy about that.

The men’s cycling road race will be the one to watch today. After a quiet Tour de France by his standards, Manx cyclist Mark Cavendish will be hoping to seal victory and take home the first medal for Team GB at their homes games. That starts at 10:00.
In the pool, Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte will both be in action, albeit in prelimanary rounds of swimming events. Worth following though as their battle for medals will surely be one of the great rivalries of London 2012.

Not a whole lot is the answer. Besides the small matter of the Opening Ceremony, today sees action in front of the Butts as men and women compete in ranking rounds for Archery.
So what Irish are in action…
There are no Irish in action today. Unless you count all those at the Opening Ceremony parading around behind the flag.
