Road closures and public transport restrictions are in place in Dublin today as the city prepares to give Team Ireland a hero’s welcome home from the Olympics.
Around 60 athletes will arrive at Dublin Airport this morning before being whisked into the city centre for a civic reception outside the GPO on O’Connell Street.
Paris 2024 was Team Ireland’s most successful Olympics yet, returning with four gold medals and three bronze.
The free public event starts at the GPO at 12.30pm; however, traffic restrictions have been in place since early this morning.
The event is free to the public, with no ticketing required.
Luas closures
Gardaí are warning commuters that both Luas lines will be restricted in the city during the event – with a number of road closures also in place throughout the day.
The Luas Green Line will be closed on O’Connell Street from 10.30am, while the Red Line will be closed from Abbey Street to Jervis Street from the same time.
O'Connell Street
Traffic on O’Connell Street has been reduced to one lane since 5am this morning.
The street will be entirely closed between 10.30am and 17.30pm and will then reopen with just one lane until 22.30pm.
Diversions
Meanwhile, several traffic diversions are in place throughout the day.
On the Quays, northbound traffic will be diverted onto Eden Quay, Gardiner Street Lower and Parnell Street.
Southbound traffic will be diverted off O’Connell Street onto Cathal Brugha Street.
There will be an option for drivers to turn onto Marlborough Street or Gardiner Street Lower and onto Eden Quay.
Meanwhile, access to Arnott’s Car Park will be limited throughout the event.
There will be an increased Garda presence in the city during the event to assist and direct fans who wish to celebrate Team Ireland’s achievements.
