A man in his 40s is being held for questioning by Gardai, in connection with a fatal assault that happened in Wicklow yesterday.
One woman, in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene in Enniskerry.
Gardai believe the killing happened at about 4pm at a home in the Park na Sillogue Court area of Enniskerry.
Emergency services attended the scene and found a woman who had been assaulted.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The office of the state pathologist has been notified and a post mortem is due to take place in the coming days.

Local Councillor in County Wicklow, Ruairi O'Connor says it's terrible news for the community:
"Look this is an absolutely horrible thing to happen altogether," he said.
"I think that its happened so close to Christmas time adds to how horrible it is overall."
"I feel completely sorry for any of the relatives and the family who have experienced this."
"My heart goes out to them."
Officers arrested one man yesterday and he's being held at Bray Garda Station.
Gardai are also appealing to anyone with information as to what happened to come forward.
They're especially interested in speaking with any member of the public who was in the park na sillogue area between 3 and 4pm yesterday.
