At least one million cockroaches have escaped a farm in eastern China where they were being bred for use in traditional medicine.

Disease control authorities have sent investigators to the area to come up with a plan to stamp out the insects.

Believers in traditional Chinese medicine say extracts taken from cockroaches can treat a range of diseases including cancer.
