It may be 186 days until Christmas, but retailers are already predicting what toys will be the most popular ahead of December 25th.
Yes, you might still be recovering from the last festive season – is it really June already? – but Argos says Star Wars toys, Nerf guns, LEGO volcanoes and a toy catepillar that teaches infants how to code are among those expected to top Santa lists later this year.
Linzi Walker, Chief Toy Buyer for Argos, said:
"This year’s list shows just how much toys are evolving – lots of [these toys] have their roots in parents’ Christmas Past.
"Now they’ve truly moved on, with more sophisticated tech, realistic life-like functions and up-to-date pop culture references."
The prices of the popular toys have also inevitably moved with the times – ranging from €30 for a karaoke 'selfie microphone' to €180 for a robotic chimp.
Argos also asked parents to look even further ahead – with 54% of Irish parents predicting that virtual reality toys will be the must-haves in 2026.
A third of the parents surveyed think children will be able to have a toy robot that they can talk to, while 29% reckon that in ten years' time there will be toys that never run out of batteries.
