Met Éireann has issued a Status Orange wind warning for Cork and a Status Yellow wind warning for Leinster, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford.

Both alerts are in place from 9pm tonight to 9am on Wednesday morning.

An orange alert suggests that weather may pose a threat to life and property, while a yellow alert is potentially dangerous locally but does not pose a threat to people.

There is also a Status Orange marine warning in place. There will be strong and gusty southeast winds, veering southwest will gusts up to 100km/h. Due to high seas and strong onshore winds, there is also an elevated risk of coastal flooding.

South to southeasterly winds will also reach gale to strong gale force this evening and tonight from Belfast Lough to Carnsore Point to Loop Head.

The Road Safety Authority is advising road users to check local traffic and weather conditions before setting out on a journey.

The authority urged motorists to remember that control of a vehicle can be affected by strong crosswinds, especially on exposed routes such as dual carriageways and motorways.
