Organisers of a ‘lockdown rave’ advertised for St Patrick’s Day have insisted it will go ahead despite coronavirus restrictions.
According to an event account on social media, the rave is to be held somewhere in Kildare or Dublin on March 17th – with the location to be revealed 12 hours before doors open.
Organisers are selling tickets for €20 and expect to be able to welcome up to 5,000 people on the day.
The page notes that tickets are limited because the event will be indoors.
“Paddys day lockdown rave in the Kildare/Dublin area 17th march 2021,” the private Instagram page reads.
“Tickets are €20. Let's not have another miserable Paddy’s Day. Let's party hard.”
In a series of posts over the weekend, organisers said 300 tickets had already been sold and offered followers the chance to win a set of five tickets.
They insisted the event was going ahead, “no matter what you guys say.”
“Even bad publicity is good publicity,” they wrote. “Thanks to everyone who shared, even the haters.”
Another post told anyone giving out about the rave to "go f**k yourself" before claiming that COVID-19 is "the biggest hoax the world has ever seen."
On Lunchtime Live this afternoon, Leitrim healthcare worker Maria said she was “gobsmacked” to hear about the plans.
“When I heard it first, I thought it was a joke,” she said. “I really can’t believe it to be honest with you.
“I know currently the restrictions are only in place until March 5th but everybody knows they will be extended and they have to be extended.
“I am just wondering, when they are, what these people intend to do? Do they intend to refund people or break the law and go ahead with it?
“I just can’t believe it to be honest with you and it is so disrespectful to the people who have lost family and friends to the COVID virus, it really is.”
Scam?
Meanwhile, caller Pat from Dublin said he doesn’t believe the organisers plan to come through with the event.
“I don’t think is going to go ahead at all,” he said.
“I think it is just a clever opportunity to raise revenue from people with no intention of running the rave at all.
“It is going to be very difficult to have it and they know it would most probably be raided. The people that purchase the tickets are not going to complain and look for their money back so it is easy money as far as I can see.”
While coronavirus restrictions are widely expected to be extended, they are currently only due to remain in place until March 5th.
As a result, organising the party is not in breach of any regulations – unless they move ahead with it after lockdown is extended.
