A Norwegian court will decide tomorrow (Friday) whether Anders Behring Breivik (33) was sane when he carried out a twin terror attack that killed 77 people on July 22nd 2011.
His guilt is not in doubt after he admitted setting off a bomb near a government building in Oslo before going on a shooting spree on Utoya island.
It has taken five judges almost two months to decide whether he should be held responsible and imprisoned for his crimes or whether he is insane and should be sent to a secure psychiatric institution for the rest of his life.
A survey conducted by NRK, a public broadcaster in Norway, found that most Norwegians believe he should be sent to prison.
Breivik has said if the court finds him insane it would be “a “fate worse than death”. The credibility of his rightwing ideology and claim to be protecting Norway from a Muslim takeover would be dismissed as the rantings of a madman.
Breivik’s lawyers confirmed they would appeal against any ruling that declared him insane.
