A jury at the inquest into the death of a mother who died after giving birth at Sligo Regional Hospital returned a verdict of death by medical misadventure earlier this week.

Sally Rowlette gave birth to her fourth child in Feburary 2013. She was 36-years-old when she passed away after giving birth.

The jury of five men and four women deliberated for over two hours before returning the unanimous verdict of death by medical misadventure.

Today, her husband Sean Rowlette spoke to Jonathan Healy on Lunchtime about the death of his wife and the baby who was orginally due to be called Shauna, but was named Sally after her mum died.

He also stated that he had become friends with Michael Kivlehan, whose wife Dhara also died of medical misadventure in the same hospital

Sean called on Leo Varadkar to meet him to discuss system of care: "I'd like to tell him my story and the pain we have gone through for the last two years. I want to explain that these things has to be changed. Our family has been torn apart."

"I want him to hear it first hand."

He also spoke about the future without Sally: "I do worry about the future. I just hope that I do a good enough job that my kids turn out alright. The mother is the back bone in any house."

Roger Murray, the solicitor who represented the family at the inquest, also spoke about where the family can go from here.
