Argos is to create 670 temporary jobs in the Republic in the run-up to the busy Christmas shopping period.
The posts will mainly last for 3 months with the potential for a permanent contract if vacancies arise.
The company says the new recruits will benefit from an immediate 10% staff discount.
Another 425 similar jobs are being created in the North.
Argos currently has over 35 stores in the Republic of Ireland and over 690 stores in the UK.
It opened its first stores in the Republic in January 1996 and launched its Irish website in 2005.
It employs around 1,400 people here.
Meanwhile the Jobs Minister has announced 56 new jobs for Dundalk in Co. Louth.
US multinational Radio Systems Corporation is setting up a new European Head Office in the town.
Positions in the pet products company will be filled over the next 3 years.
The first 25 employees are to be recruited by the end of this year.
The investment is supported by the Irish government with the aid of IDA Ireland.
The group manufactures PetSafe products and is a founding member of the Electronic Collar Manufacturers Association (ECMA).
This promotes the use of humane static correction products for pet training.
