Health officials in Gaza have claimed that at least 19 people have been killed in an airstrike on a designated humanitarian zone.

Israel said it was targeting three senior Hamas fighters, who it alleges were directly involved in the October 7th attacks.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken described the situation in Gaza as horrific and said 90% of issues regarding a ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas have been agreed.

“The suffering of innocent men, women and children in Gaza is gut wrenching,” he said.

“Right now, we’re in the midst of what seems to be a successful polio vaccination campaign.

“The quickest way to make sure that people stop dying and start getting what they need is through a ceasefire.”

Palestine and US politics

In last night’s Presidential debate, Vice President Kamala Harris said she supported Israel’s “right to defend itself” but also said that Palestinians should have the right to “security, self determination and dignity”.

Donald Trump said he could have prevented the war in Gaza had he remained in office as US President.
