When the second season of Netflix’s ambitious bilingual drama series Narcos went live on September 2nd, the Wagner Moura-starring show was met with almost universal acclaim in its bold and daring retelling of the life – and death – of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar. Almost universal, though, as one of the show’s most vocal critics piped back up to complain about the show’s writers playing somewhat fast and loose with the life of Escobar – none other than his son, Sebastián Marroquín.
Identifying no fewer than 28 different things he has determined to be entirely inaccurate, Escobar’s heir took to Facebook to list his complaints. “Dear friends, here I share my personal reflection of the second season, so beware the veracity of its content,” Marroquín begins. “On behalf of my country and in honour of the real truth of the incidents which took place between the 80s and 90s, I see [an] obligation to [correct] serious mistakes of a series that claims to be as truthful.”
Among Marroquín’s complaints, which are *spoilers* for those yet to have mainlined all 10 episodes of the show’s second season, are: that his uncle Carlos Henao was neither a drug dealer nor ever lived in Miami, that Escobar’s favourite football team was Independiente Medellín and not Atlético Nacional, and that Marroquín’s paternal grandmother was not the person who betrayed Escobar. Fans of the show can at least relax with the news that Netflix revealed last week that Narcos will be coming back for at least two more seasons. Season three is expected to pick up where the second left off, with the Cali Cartel set to become the focus of the story. You can take a look at the teaser trailer below:
