Parcel delivery firm DPD Ireland says it will create 120 new jobs here, to help deal with increasing deliveries due to the continuing growth of online shopping.
The company is planning to invest an additional €2 million in its central sorting hub in Athlone following a recent extension.
The new roles will include drivers, sortation staff in the regional networks, night staff at the Athlone hub and admin staff throughout the country.
It comes as the company says it will process upwards of 170,000 parcels per day at its Irish depots during the year's peak period.
Business Minister Heather Humphreys said today's announcement was "significant", adding that she was looking forward to seeing the jobs "having a big impact".
DPD Ireland chief executive Des Travers said: "We are on track to deliver 22 million parcels this year, up from 19 million last year, and boosting our team will allow us to scale up faster.
"Irish retailers are continuing to improve their online presence, offering consumers a better choice, and as a result, deliveries are up and our turnover is expected to be €100 million."
The new jobs are set to bring the delivery firm's number of employees here from 1,720 to 1,840 people, with recruitment to begin immediately.
