The girl injured in an attack on Parnell Square in November will have to “relearn everything” as she enters the next stage of recovery.

According to a GoFundMe page of which the family of the girl are beneficiaries, the five-year-old girl “has entered the third stage of recovery”.

“This will be the longest as she will relearn everything as a result of her injury,” her mother said in a statement.

“She has done really well thus far, and the medical team is very happy with her improvement.

“Once again, she is so strong and we are proud to be by her side supporting her, guiding her, and, above all, loving her every step of the way.”

'A Hug for a Little Girl'

The family announced she was “out of danger” on December 28th and became more alert after two weeks in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU).

The organisers said the title of the fundraiser has been changed from 'Róisín Fundraiser' to 'Barróg do Chailín Beag' (A Hug for a Little Girl).

They said this is because Barróg is the name of the teddy bear who "has been keeping a special school seat warm”.

Knife attack on Parnell Square

The five-year-old girl has been in hospital since she was injured in a knife attack outside Coláiste Mhuire on Parnell Square East on November 23rd.

A carer working in the school and two other children were also injured in the attack.

The carer, Leanne Flynn Keogh, is out of intensive care while the two children, a boy and a girl, were released from hospital in the days following the attack.

A 50-year-old man was charged with three counts of attempted murder and one count of assault on December 21st.

Another fundraiser was set up for Deliveroo driver Caio Benicio to “buy him a pint” in thanks after he intervened in the stabbings.
