Paul Murphy has said it was ‘just not acceptable’ for Danny Healy Ray to bring up his child’s gender during an argument in the Dáil earlier this week.
In a heated exchange at Leinster House on Tuesday night, the Kerry TD referenced Deputy Murphy’s young child in an argument that made international headlines.
It happened as the two TDs disagreed over the Universal Social Charge (USC) and carbon tax during a debate on the Finance Bill.
Deputy Healy-Rae said to Deputy Murphy: “What do you know? Sure you don’t know whether your own baby is a boy or a girl.”
Deputy Murphy told Deputy Healy-Rae to “f**k off” and called him a “f**king asshole”.
Deputy Healy-Rae was called a “disgrace” by other TDs in attendance at the time.
The Kerry TD insisted it was “the truth” but later withdrew his comment.

On Newstalk Breakfast this morning, Deputy Murphy said he doesn’t intend to take “any further action” over the exchange.
“I don't want to give him further oxygen,” he said.
“I mean, the bottom-line point for me is that it is just not acceptable to bring people's children into politics, into a debate in the Dáil, and that's why I reacted the way I did.
“I think that goes across the board.
“I wouldn't try and bring someone else's children into politics.”
Deputy Murphy said he would hold to that point of view, “regardless of what disagreements you have” with another TD.
