A Christmas miracle happened in the unlikely venue of Pearse Street train station on Tuesday night as one Irish romantic chose to round off this year in a very sweet way.
We reported earlier on the story, which saw Conor wait for his Irish Rail driver girlfriend on the platform where she was due to finish her shift.
Filmed by passersby and also caught on the vehicle's dashcam, the clips show Conor holding a huge bouquet of flowers as his bride-to-be Paula's train rolled into view.
Stepping out of the passenger side-door, Paula noticed the huge banners saying 'Marry Me' and saw her now-fiancé drop to one knee.
💍 Congratulations to Paula, our DART driver and her fiancé Conor on their engagement - and here’s how Paula saw it unfold as she was driving a northbound DART into Pearse!
🎉 Thanks to DART and Pearse Station teams for helping Conor to make it happen! #pearseproposal https://t.co/RBis8cVCAf pic.twitter.com/YZbHlm74Am— Iarnród Éireann (@IrishRail) December 16, 2020
Speaking on Lunchtime Live, Conor said: "I finally got the courage to propose. The only way I could make it a surprise was to do it when she was at work. You kind of know there's something going on when you're preparing a proposal ... if I took her out for dinner or anywhere special it would have been clear what was happening.
"So if I did it at work, and she drove in that would have been a surprise and that was the goal."
In order to pull it off, Conor shared that he had to beg a friend of Paula's to swap shifts, speak to her boss to ensure everything was above board and finally had to convince another driver to continue the rest of her shift and to film the scene from the driver's carriage.
Speaking about the scene, Paula said: "It was a complete surprise. When I was pulling in from far away I saw a big whiteboard and on approach, I noticed the four boards which said 'Will you marry me?'. I wanted to kill him! I was so embarrassed."
"I'm a lucky man," Conor concluded. "The reaction was quite a surprise. Everyone's had a tough year so it was nice to leave on a positive note and I hope people can find hope and joy in what we did."
