A woman in her 80s has died after being hit by a car in Co Clare. 

The crash happened this morning at 8.55am on the L8050 road at Knockaveen. 

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was brought to the morgue at University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination will take place. 

There were no other injuries. 

The road remains closed for forensic examination and local diversions are in place. 

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to provide support to the family of the deceased. 

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.  

They are particularly interested in talking to anyone who was in the area and may have dashcam footage.
