A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Midleton, Co Cork, overnight. 

It happened at roughly 1.30am on the N25 Eastbound at Water-Rock in Midleton.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other serious injuries were reported. 

The road is currently closed for forensic examinations. Local diversions are in place. 

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the crash to come forward. 

They are particularly interested in anyone with dashcam footage who was driving in the area 1.15am and 1.30am.
