Irish society has inherited a "deep shame" over the way women and children were treated in Mother and Baby homes.
That is according to the Taoiseach, who was speaking after the fifth interim report on Mother and Baby Homes was delivered to Cabinet.
Leo Varadkar told the Dáil that the report "makes gruesome reading".
Pelosi: 'We will not allow Good Friday Agreement progress to be undermined'
The Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has reiterated that progress with the Northern Ireland peace process cannot be undermined by Brexit.
She is leading a US Congressional delegation, which includes several members of the Friends of Ireland caucus - such as Congressman Richie Neal.
Ms Pelosi addressed the Dáil on Wednesday afternoon, as part of a two-day fact-finding visit to Ireland.

At least 28 people have died after a tourist bus overturned on the Portuguese island of Madeira, local media is reporting.
The Lusa news agency quotes the local mayor as saying 17 women and 11 men had died.
In comments translated by Reuters, Mayor Filipe Sousa told SIC TV: “I have no words to describe what happened. I cannot face the suffering of these people."

A former president of Peru has died after shooting himself before being arrested by police.
It happened as officers were set to detain Alan García as part of an investigation into alleged corruption.
Mr García had repeatedly denied any wrongdoing.
Over 2,200 women reported sexual offences to Gardaí last year
The vast majority of sexual offence victims last year were women.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) this afternoon released figures on the reporting of serious crime to Gardaí in 2018.
The figures show that 82% of people who reported being the victim of a sexual assault were female.
