An elderly man (68) living in isolation, was forced to abandon his home at 1am in the morning after raiders threatened to rob him for a third time.
Micheal McMahon from Doonbeg in Co. Clare cycled 30 kilometres along a dark lonely road, a journey that took him 8 hours because he was weak and shaking, in order to reach the nearest nursing home where he checked himself in.
Three men this week pleaded guilty to robbing him of €7,000 over two nights. They will be sentenced in March.
