Pensions Board concerned workers aren't getting entitlements

The Pensions Board has raised concerns about poor administration and record keeping - which could result in members not receiving all of the benefits they are entitled to.

It's launched its annual report for 2012, which shows the number of people with pensions in Ireland fell by almost 14,000 when compared to 2011.

The Board secured convictions in 15 cases where money was being deducted from employees but not passed on to the pension scheme - and €1.3-million was restored to the schemes.

Most of the investigations relate to employers in the construction industry and came about as a result of whistleblows.

Minister for Social Protection, Joan Burton, was at the event:

The Board also carried out 28 inspections on administrators - and found that in 4 of the cases, the standard of administration was such that the Board would have considered withdrawing their registration.
