A people smuggling investigation has been launched after two men were found hiding on a ferry arriving into Rosslare yesterday.

The ship’s crew found the men in a van on the ferry in the early hours of Friday morning.

Gardaí were waiting when the ship arrived and both men were found to be in good health.

Two men, the driver and passenger of the van, were arrested in suspicion of people smuggling offences.

The two men in their 30s were taken to a Garda station in the Wexford/Wicklow area for questioning and have since been released without charge.

The investigation is ongoing and Gardaí say a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

International

Gardaí said they are liaising with “international counterparts” on the investigation.

Anyone with any information on Friday’s incident is urged to contact Gardaí.
