Government advice this evening will say people shouldn't hug or shake hands with people they have over for Christmas.

People will also be advised to wear a face mask while cooking and serving the dinner.

The number of people allowed in the kitchen should be limited, while advice will recommend keeping fresh air flowing through the house by keeping a window open.

Anyone intending to host people at Christmas will be told to limit contacts as much as possible from today.

Cabinet has been meeting this afternoon to sign off on an easing of restrictions for December and the Christmas period.

A restriction on household visits is expected to continue until Friday December 18th.

It is expected that shops, hairdressers, barbers, cinemas, theatres and gyms will get the green light to reopen from Tuesday.

Restaurants and gastropubs will also be allowed reopen, although that may not happen until December 7th.
