Convicted drugs mule Michaela McCollum Connolly is likely to serve the remainder of her prison term in Northern Ireland.
Michaela and Scottish woman Melissa Reid were sentenced to six years and eight months’ in prison last December for attempting to smuggle 11.5 kilos of cocaine, worth €1.8m, on a flight from Lima to Spain.
Prison authorities in Peru have accepted a transfer request for McCollum Connolly (20), but it is understood the process will take a number of months.
Claire Graham, reporter with Citybeat radio in Belfast, spoke to Newstalk's Pat Kenny show:
McCollum Connolly from Dungannon, Co Tyrone, pleaded guilty to the charges when she was before the courts in Lima.
The transfer request will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
