The animal rights group Peta has released images of a new ad which it claims is inspired by the severed leg found in a recycling plant in Ballyfermot last week.
Peta's statement on the issue read:
"While people are understandably horrified by the idea of finding dismembered human remains, PETA is hoping that some good might come from pointing out that murder – no matter the victim – is wrong."
Local councillor Daithí de Róiste condemned the idea:
"The deliberate use of human remains in an advertisement, in the wake of the Thorntons discovery, is sickening and disgusting...
"A Garda investigation is currently underway to establish what has occurred. For PETA try and make light of this investigation is foolish, unwise and wrong. The severed remains that were found belong to a human being."
The remains were found on a conveyor belt last Thursday in Thornton's Recycling Plant on Killeen Road. Gardaí were immediately called to the seen to perform an investigation.
