Animal rights organisation Peta have offered a £10,000 (€12,600) reward to anyone who can identify the "heartless thug" who was filmed last week kicking a squirrel off the edge of the Grand Canyon.

The video, which shows two men luring the animal to the edge with food before one knocks it over, went viral after it was uploaded to YouTube last week.

The only detail provided by the uploader, Jonathan Hildebrand, was that the men were most likely French.

Grand Canyon Chief Ranger Bill Wright told the media that the men would face a fine of $5,000 and up to six months in prison for harassing wildlife, but that it was unlikely they could be charged for animal cruelty. To prove the latter, they would have to find the body of the animal to prove that it was killed.
