Director Peter Jackson has confirmed his film adaptation of The Hobbit will now be split into three parts, instead of two.
/> In the words of the story’s writer J.R.R. Tolkien, Jackson says the filming “has been an unexpected journey indeed” and is “a tale that grew in the telling.”

The films will now be released in December this year, December 2013 with the final part due the following summer.
