Pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson has announced a €100m investment in Limerick.
The investment is in the company's contact lens manufacturing branch Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Ireland and will be used to expand its plant in Plassey.
Currently, Johnson & Johnson employs some 1,650 people in Ireland across three business sectors and the move is expected to create further jobs in the county.
“We will be adding a further 80 [jobs] to that workforce,” plant leader John Lynch told Newstalk.
“And that’s direct labour, direct headcount, so in addition to that then there will be the services that support the operation here in Limerick as well.
“So a significant and sizeable operation here in Limerick.”
Johnson & Johnson Family of Companies dates back to 1886 and is headquartered in New Jersey, USA.
It has been operating in Ireland for over 80 years.
