The Herpetological Society is investigating as to why between 250 and 300 frogs were found dead in Kildare.
The mass deaths were described as "extremely concerning" following the discovery. The common frogs were located around a small breeding pond in the Curragh last week.
It is still unclear as to how the frogs died, however skin swab samples have been sent for DNA testing in the UK to establish a cause. Analysis of the water in the area showed that it is within range of a normal healthy habitat.
A similar incident occurred last year in Co. Waterford. It was believed that the Chytrid fungus or the Ranavirus were to blame. Tests results indicated this was not the case.
