Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion will be housed in tents at the Gormanston Army Camp in County Meath from this Monday.
It comes after women, children and elderly people arriving into Dublin Airport were forced to sleep on floors in the old Terminal Building due to a ‘severe shortage’ of State accommodation.
There has been a significant increase in people seeking international protection in recent weeks – with as many as 150 people arriving every day.
The Citywest hotel, which can hold around 2,300 people, is now full and officials are working on finding more accommodation for new arrivals.
The Government said the amount of time people spend at the Dublin Airport Terminal will be kept to a minimum and the most vulnerable people are being prioritised for transfer.
More than 160 people were moved out of the airport to new accommodation yesterday.
Yesterday the Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed that the Gormanston Army Camp would open this coming Monday.
