Tens of thousands of people were left without power on Saturday night across New York in the US.
The outages began before 7.00pm local time (12.00am Irish time) on Saturday.
Some iconic landmarks - such as Times Square - went dark, while many Broadway theatres had to cancel Saturday night performances.
Singer Jennifer Lopez was also forced to cancel a concert at Madison Square Gardens.

But she said she would reschedule the show for Monday night, later tweeting: "Gonna take more than a city-wide blackout to shut us down!"
"If everything goes well and the power comes back on tomorrow... I have said that I will come back on Monday, before my show in Boston on Tuesday, to do the show that we did not do tonight".
Around 72,000 customers in a 30-block area of Manhattan were affected, with officials blaming a transformer fire.
Authorities said most of the power had been restored by early on Sunday morning.
Power company Con Edison said its crews had fully restored power to those on the west side of Manhattan.
"With all customers back in service, the company will focus on investigating the cause of the equipment failures and on getting the electrical-delivery system back to its normal level of reliability", it said.
It added that the customers affected were concentrated in an area that reached West 72nd Street on the north, West 30th Street on the south, the Hudson River on the west and 5th Avenue on the east.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said: "This could have been much worse.
"When you're talking about a city like New York with a significant piece of the city basically suffering a blackout, that could be a very chaotic situation.
"We saw the exact opposite, actually. We saw New Yorkers at their best."
"Power has been restored after today's blackout, but New Yorkers should continue to exercise caution as everything returns to normal.
"When things are at their worst, New Yorkers are at their best, and they were at their best tonight."
