Video game stores across Ireland opened their doors at midnight last night for one of the most eagerly anticipated game launches ever.
Yesterday Gamestop Ireland announced it would be opening most of its stores for the midnight launch of action-adventure video game Grand Theft Auto V, recommending customers queue from as early as 10pm.
This was in spite of many customers pre-ordering the game months in advance.
The company later stated on Twitter that there were "thousands of people" inside their stores picking up the game.
At a reported €203 million, Grand Theft Auto V is thought to be the most expensive video game ever made, costing more than Hollywood blockbusters such as Avatar.
The Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold around 135 million copies worldwide since its 1997 debut. The previous game in the series, GTA IV, is estimated to have sold 25 million copies since its release five years ago.
Below are some pictures taken by customers while they queued for the midnight launch.
