Film can be a place of solace for those who are going through a difficult time. It can also be something of a comfort for those in need. This is particularly evident in the case of the pink droid.

The new Star Wars: the Force Awakens, will feature a new pink droid which we first saw in the animated Clones series. The idea came from Albin Johnson who desinged the droid as a comfort to his daughter, Katie, who was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour back in 2004.

Speaking to mygeeknews, Johnson said: “Mary Franklin of Lucasfilm asked me to pitch the idea to Kathleen Kennedy (Lucasfilm President), and after hearing the story of our pink ambassador of hope Lucasfilm requested we ship her off to London early last year.

"Quick repairs were made and off she went for six months."

The idea was shipped to the R2 Builders Club but the Johnson family became worried it wouldn't be built before their daughter passed away. One of the designers painted one of his own droids and shipped it to the family.

Katie passed away in 2005.

According to the Standard, the droid has been seen at a number of charity events.
