A pipe bomb has been thrown at a police vehicle in west Belfast.

The device did not explode and no-one was injured.

Officers think they were lured to the area by a hoax call.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said the attack happened at Culmore Gardens at 7.30pm last night.

Army technical officers were sent to the area and houses were also evacuated.

Police say they are investigating the attack and are appealing for witnesses or those who have information to come forward.
