Dedicated 'pizza box only' bins are being trialled in Blackrock and Dalkey in Dublin.
It's part of an effort to stop standard public bins from being clogged up with the bulky cardboard boxes.
Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council says it's a small-scale trial, with two of the bins being installed to start.
Cathaoirleach Una Power said the initiative is aimed at tackling the issue of "bulky pizza boxes blocking ordinary public bins".
The trial is part of the dlrBETA project, which lets the public submit ideas for "small scale improvements to the public realm".
The move comes ahead of a summer of outdoor activities, with concerns already being raised about rubbish being left behind by groups in parks and other public spaces.
