There are reports that a Ukrainian man tried to hijack a plane and divert it to Sochi where the Winter Olympics have just started.

Turkish media say the man claimed there was a bomb on board the Pegasus Airlines aircraft and tried to get into the cockpit while carrying a detonator.

The pilot managed to sound an alert and an F-16 Turkish military jet was scrambled and forced the plane to land in Istanbul.

There were some 110 passengers on board.

Reports say all of them were being searched for explosives.

The hijacker is believed to be a Ukrainian man, and that he has been overpowered by security forces.
