Plans to redevelop a fruit and vegetable market in Dublin as a continental-style food market are to be lodged by the City Council within weeks. Construction is likely to being later this year if the project gets the go ahead.
Dublin City Council has been renovating the historic market hall between Capel Street and the Four Courts in the north inner-city since 2012.
Now the Council is set to seek planning permission to redevelop the 6,000 square metre area.
Part of the plan will see wholesalers move to the western half of the building, while the remaining half of the hall will be devoted to a retail food market - including butchers, bakers, cheese & fishmongers and greengrocers.
A combination of indoor and outdoor permanent and temporary stalls will be available to traders from September next year once the €3 million project is given the green light.
It is thought planning permission could be approved by June with construction starting in September.
The chief executive of Dublin City Business Association David Brennan outlines some of the plans.
