Almost 550 new cost rental homes are to be built around the country.
More than over €100m in funding has been announced by Housing Minister Darragh O'Brien to deliver the homes across five different local authorities.
The Government says the new homes will provide secure tenures at a minimum of 25% below market rates.
The funding will provide for:
- 28 new cost rental homes in Co Laois
- 25 new cost rental homes in Co Kildare
- 25 new cost rental homes in Kilkenny City
- 51 new cost rental homes in Cork City
- 417 new cost rental homes in Dublin City
Minister O'Brien said most cost rental schemes have been oversubscribed.
"The high demand is a clear indication of the success of this form of housing and the effectiveness of our cost rental approach, he said.
"It’s vital that we scale up supply, and approvals such as these are ensuring we can do just that," he added.
More than €675m has already been approved for delivery of over 3,250 cost rental homes across 12 local authority areas.
Cost rental homes are aimed at people on middle incomes who are constrained by rents in the private rental market but who don’t meet the income criteria for social housing support.
People can qualify for cost rental housing if their net household income is below €66,000 per year in Dublin and €59,000 for everywhere else in the country.
There are over 1,600 cost rental homes in the State to date delivered by approved housing bodies, local authorities and the Land Development Agency (LDA).
