Five police officers are under investigation over their initial response to an incident outside a County Tyrone hotel that left three teenagers dead.

Connor Currie (16), Lauren Bullock and Morgan Barnard (both 17) died while waiting to get into a St Patrick's Day disco at the Greenvale Hotel in Cookstown.

Police said around 600 people were in the queue at the time and surged towards the door.

This evening PSNI Deputy Chief Constable Stephen Martin said Northern Ireland’s Police Ombudsman is investigating whether five officers who were involved in the initial response to the incident are guilty of Misconduct in Public Office.

“We have full confidence in the Office of the Police Ombudsman to complete a thorough and independent investigation and we will co-operate fully throughout it,” he said.

“Until this is complete it would be inappropriate to comment further.”

He said the police investigation into the deaths is ongoing and said his thoughts remain with the families of the three teens who tragically died.

The officers involved have not been suspended from duty.
