A criminal investigation has been launched into last month's deadly fertiliser plant explosion in Texas.

Police have - up to now - largely treated the blast in the town of West that killed 14 people as an industrial accident.

News of the criminal inquiry emerged after a paramedic from the area was charged for possession of an explosive device.

It's not known if there's a connection.
