Dublin City Council has announced plans to combat illegal dumping by introducing fines and possible court action under new by-laws.

On the spot fines of €75 can be issued for householders who failed to produce any evidence of disposing their waste. Failure to pay could result in court action.

According to the Irish Times, the new laws will restrict when private bin collectors can pick up waste.

Rules, to be approved by councillors this week, will enforce that all householders and businesses waste is collected by a pre approved provider or a purpose built waste facility.

Councils are looking for the power to call to households and request proof of how residents dumped their waste.

Waste collection will be restricted in the city centre from businesses and households to between 7pm and midnight and bins must not be put out for collection before 5pm according to the by-laws.
