Over 60% of drink-drivers have escaped without conviction, new government figures show.
Between January 2013 and May 2015, more than 20,000 people were due before District Courts for drink-driving, however, only 6,709 resulted in being convicted.
The highest conviction rate was in Offaly, at 68 per cent, while county Kerry courts had the lowest, at 29 per cent.
The figures contrast sharply with statistics in the UK and Wales were 97% of people found to be drink driving were convicted.
