More controversy has arisen regarding the Dail bar. A report in the Irish Independent shows that TDs and Senators drank significantly more pints on the night of the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill debate and 'Lapgate' than usual.

According to the article, €1,440.80 was spent on 313 alcoholic drinks on that the night. A total of 176 coffees and teas as well as food were ordered at the bar, which closed at 5.31am.

Meanwhile figures published in the Irish Sun today reveal 59 bottles of wine were consumed along with around 300 pints and almost 50 shorts. A total of €10,000 was spent in both the Dail Bar and the Visitor's bar.

A poll on Newstalk.ie on the morning after was quite unanimous. We asked you whether "TDs should be allowed back into the chambers after drinking in the Dáil bar".

Over 95 per cent of you voted no.

However would you be supportive of moves to ban the serving of alcoholic beverages in the Dail bar at all times? Viote in our poll.
