Pope Francis has had blood transfusions as he continues to be treated for respiratory problems.
Vatican officials say the 88-year-old's condition is now critical, and he had to have help breathing yesterday.
Texas deacon Jesus Cardenas has said everyone is praying for a swift improvement.
"Hope is always there," he said.
"We are praying for him and the hope of a better world and we know and we have the hope things are going to get better."
The Pontiff is missing Sunday Mass for the second weekend in a row, after being admitted to hospital nine days ago.
