Pope Francis has used his first Easter Sunday address to appeal for an end to the civil war in Syria.

He also called for peace between Israelis and Palestinians and a diplomatic solution to the escalating tension between North and South Korea.

Tens of thousands of people gathered in St Peter's Square to see the Pontiff.

Earlier he held mass and toured the area in the open-topped Pope mobile.
