A post-mortem examination is due to be carried out today on the body of an 8-year-old boy who was found dead in his home in North Cork yesterday morning.
Emergency services found Anthony Ward dead in the bedroom of his home at Harrison Place in Charleville.
It is understood investigating Gardaí believe he did not die of natural causes.
His mother is being treated in hospital and the 43-year-old remains there this morning.
The Health Service Executive (HSE) has confirmed that it had been in contact with the family in the past.
In a statement it says it intends to undertake a “comprehensive review” of its involvement with the family of the boy.
